ABOUT

I write in times of crisis and peace, in favor of art and aesthetics.
Art is not an ornament,
Word is not absolute,
The sound is not noise,
Images speak.
 (August Boal)

The Babel Harbinger embodies the belief that Art is the holistic medicine for human society. It is the only universal language spoken on earth, thus the only tool to allow multicultural understanding.

My name is Federica Buonsante and this is my website. I am an Italian Ph.D. fellow at the Department of Public Art, Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. My research focuses on practice and aesthetics of public art across China and Italy.

This website is made for whoever is interested in or wishes to learn more about socially-engaged art, arts-based teaching, and community-based art from a cross-cultural perspective. Its aim is to promote the importance of artistic expression in education and public spaces.

Here you can find both practical and theoretical approaches to public art: art projects, workshops, notes of experimental pedagogy; information, interpretations, and evaluations of international public art practices of interest for the IPA – Institute for Public Art (instituteforpublicart.org), and Public Art China respectively organization and magazine which I collaborate with.

Hope you enjoy the readings. For any question don’t hesitate to contact me.
